Hello My Dear...

MBA Finance, MSc Finance / Economics - Wow! Looking at these words made me feel very excited to answer your query since I myself belong to this field for many years now. I am glad that you approached CareerGuide.com for seeking guidance on your very apt and good career query.

I understand that you are an Engineer and would like to go into finance/BFSI sector by doing a relevant post graduation. MBA Finance, MSc Economics, MSc Finance & Economics are great courses.

If you are interested in BFSI, then you need to be a master in finance and economics both. Therefore if there is a recognised University giving MSc Economics & Finance together in one course, then I would suggest you to opt for that.

Economics is a universal study subject and it is included even if you go for MBA Finance course only. However if you are interested in just economic analysis, statistics, etc. then you should choose MSc Economics or MA Economics.

MBA Finance is a over all course majorly inclined towards finance and less of economics.

If you are interested in banking sector more, then MA or MSc Economics would suit you the best however if you pursue it from top Institutes only. If you are interested in finance and financial services sector, then an MBA Finance would be good. If you are interested in Insurance, MBA Finance or Actuaries course will help.

Therefore what I would suggest you as the very first step, is that get yourself assessed on your likings, passion, interest areas, competencies, personality. This will make you exactly decide which course to choose since that will then be based on your factual assessment. Taking a psychometric test would be best thing to do at this stage.

Best Luck.
