The core branches of engineering field are Mechanical, Civil and Electrical. There are derived branches as Electronics, computer science, IT, production, biotechnology, biomedical, metallurgy etc.
Programming is a must for only IT and CSE branch. For other branches it is taught as only an introductory subject in first year. However, do not select any branch randomly because you do not like other branches. Choose it only if you are interested in the subjects and concepts taught in the particular branch. Though there are lakhs of engineers wanting to take up the IT or Computers field after engineering, you are not among the crowd followers.
