Hello student

I am a Doctorate in Management and to be honest with your question, BBA and BBM are almost 99% the same in India. BBA stands for bachelor of business administration where as BBM stands for bachelor of business management. If you find the syllabus of both these degrees they are almost the same in principle. Indian institutions have renamed certain degrees as per their convenience and with this respect BBA has been new fashioned to BBM and there is not much difference between the two. But to also alert you, with the case of foreign universities it is entirely different. I am lecturing under graduate students in the UK Universities and having been through the syllabus, the only difference I have found between BBA and BBAM is, BBA is business oriented which also includes entrepreneurship where as BBM is corporate management oriented. To be more clear, BBA students studying abroad will understand how to start a own business and run effectively where as BBM students are fit to manage effectively an already established business. But with case of India, there is no such difference with the syllabus between these two degrees.
So feel free to study either BBA or BBM.

The only two things that I would advice you to take into account are:
1. Select the appropriate university that offers a good BBA/ BBM program.
You need to carefully select the university that you wish to study. Please find if there are any business schools in your region that also offers under graduate programs. I would like to mention and highlight that studying at a business school will be of more help rather studying at a university that runs all programs. Also try finding out the business schools that are very good in placements, faculty research and alumni success.

2. Select the right elective as part of this business degree.
Many students struggle to find the right elective that suits them the best. I have always seen girls blindly choosing human resource management where as boys often choosing marketing. there are many other specialisations as part of your BBA/ BBM program like the accounts, finance, supply chain management, organisational behavior, systems management, production management, manufacturing management, information management, business analytics and many more. Try to do a specialisation that matches your skill set. If you are a people person then HRM, Organisation behaviour will help. If you would like to work for the IT industry and have studied computer science at HSC level then information management or systems management will suit you. Like wise try analysing your needs, future career interest and select the right specialisation. Hope this helps. My best wishes to you. Good luck.

Dear career aspirant

Welcome to CareerGuide.com

The question has given me a challenge. I had to go through so many websites and articles before answering your query. I even contacted experts in this field. Nice speaking to you.

Both BBM and BBA are courses which sets your sail in the field of business aministrtion. These courses can provide better avenues in the field of management and can proviede proper platforms for higher studies in management.

The key differences between these courses are:

1. BBA trains students inn the skills of an administrator as the course name suggests and BBM students are made to get trained in the intricacies of business management. Administration amounts to enterpreneurship and management is mangement of business and people and resources.

2. BBM provides specializations in various areas like human resources, marketing, retail, operation, finance etc. Whereas, BBA does not offer such special areas. But in MBA these specializations can be elected.

To answer your question. Bot the courses are equally good and are a good platform for further studies in management or administration. Therefore I suggest you to undergo a psychometric test to know the managerial aptitude and managerial skills. Once you know your managerial aptitude and managerial skills, you should be able to select the correct course.

In my opinion, BBM shall be better than BBA. Given the fact that it provides you specialization from the beginning itself. Selection of good institution is another task which you should address.

Good luck.
