Hello there

Thank you for contacting counsellors at Mera career guide and i am very happy to help with your query today. Biotechnology is vast and it has many branches. To narrow down the list of famous biotechnologists isnt an easy thing as we need to pick the top scientists name from every branch of Biotechnology.

Biotechnology itself is broadly classified into four groups. Green biotech, red biotech, blue biotech and white biotech. So the personalities are also split across these divisions of biotech. Green biotech involves everything with plants like agriculture biotech, food biotech, agri-food biotech, plant hybrid technology and pesticides for plants. red biotech involves innovating antibodies and manufacturing the same. Blue biotech involves everything to do with marine, aquatic and under water world plants and micro organisms. White biotech involves everything that is to do with industries involving enzymes and catalysts for production of large scale antibodies, medicines. So experts come under these four branches of Biotechnology.

I can give one personality's name who brought name and fame to India in biotech field. Dr Kiran Mazumdhar Shah is a famous biotechnologist from India. Her love for biotechnology led her to study BSc Zoology in Bangalore India and subsequently studied Masters in brewing technology abroad. After her studies she set up her own lab to innovate products related to her research. She also worked as a Trainee in Ireland to gain hands on experience in her research work. She subsequently started working for many companies and as her research expanded she started her own biotech company known as 'Biocon'. Biocon is world famous biotech company for producing medicines and pharmaceuticals. They have also recently produced medicines for first stages of cancer. She is regarded as world famous personality in biotechnology and TIMES magazine also noted her as women of power to watch last year. She ranks powerful women from India list too.

The ideal skill a biotechnologist or likely Kiran Mazumdhar Shah of Biocon had are interpersonal skills, entrepreneurial skills, in-depth academic knowledge, hands on practical experience and above all a strong passion for the subject of study. If a person possess the above skills then they are definitely likely to achieve success in the field they work.

Good luck.
