The merchant navy fleet include cargo liners,passengervessels, tankers, carriers and other special types ofvehicles It is arightcareer choice for those who wish to explore the sea and visit exotic places all over the world. It is a career whichpromisesexcellent remuneration and never ending adventure. The marine engineers are employed by shipping companies on contractual basis.The marine engineer is mainly responsible for ensuring safe and economic running of all engines, boilers, electrical refrigerating and sanitaryequipment deck machinery and steam connections aboard the ship along with his team..Apart from degree inengineering, a diploma holder can join merchant navy after doing 2 years of studies . A mechanical engineering degree holder also have an option to work as marine engineering after completing one year course. There is also a 3 months pre-sea course for Engine rating. The engine rook rating assist the engineering officers in maintenance and operation of engines and associated equipment.
