Dietetics is the science concerned with the nutritional planning and preparation of foods.

dietetics is formally studied at the post graduate level although it may be a part of the bachelor of home science curriculum in food science and nutrition specialization.

post graduate diploma or degree course in dietetics is open to graduates in home science , medicine, hotel management and catering and allied degrees

master's in home science, food science, nutrition and dietetics is offered in the home science department of various universities,including the women's universities.

subjects taught in dietetic include chemistry, physics, nutrition and physiology.

With the above mentioned qualification and personality traits such as organizing ability, interest in a sound diet , an aptitude for science, ability for teamwork, patience, a sense of responsibility, understanding of people of all ages, backgrounds, temperaments-and tastes , basic ideas of the diet pattern prevailing in different parts of the country among the cross sections of society and ability to express one self lucidly one can become a dietitian.

The dietician is a professional who uses the science of managing food and nutrition to promote health life style. This is relatively new profession, this field has gained importance with the realization that wrong or unhealthy eating habits can lead to many ailments or diseases and that quality of life depends upon the quality of food we daily eat.



Dieticians helps to promote good health through appropriate eating habits, thereby improving the quality of life. They assist people in planning their diet depending upon their age, medical condition, gender and work routine. They also counsel and educate them about healthy eating and preparation of food items according to the principle of nutrition.



Dietician Eligibility / Qualifications:

To be eligible for joining Three years BSc Nutrition course or four years Food Technology course, one should be 10+2 class pass with physics, chemistry and biology (PCB) as main subjects and for some institute and universities the minimum requirement is 60% marks. The other course such as B.Sc Home Science and then M.Sc in Food and nutrition course will be perfect of dietician and Nutritionist job. There are many universities and institutes offering diploma courses in dietician and nutrition.

Dieticians required skills:

The dietician should be able to give full attention to what other people are saying. Taking time to understand and points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate time.

They should be able to teach others how to do something , able to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents and talking to others to convey information effectively.

They should be good at communication or interpersonal skills effectively with the clients or patients also in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience; understanding the implications new information for both current and future problem solving and decision making.



After getting proper educational qualifications the dietician may open their independent clinic or may join some hospital. Here you have to give advice to the patients or clients regarding their health and prepare data. This data may be used for publication purpose to spread awareness among the common mass.
