Acquiring an appropriate professional qualification is the first step towards making a successful career in finance. A bachelor's degree in commerce or economics is a good starting point.

The big three Indian professional bodies offering finance related qualification- chartered accountancy, cost and management accountancy or company secretary allow students to purse their courses after finishing school by enrolling for the foundation stage without having to wait for completing a bachelors degree.

Though the chartered accountancy course has enjoyed wide popularity with those keen on traditional finance, accounting and tax career , ICWA and CS programs have gained popularity over the last few years.MBA in finance or master's programs in finance and control are some other promising career options to consider. In order to widen knowledge and diversify skills , most students opt for two professional courses, a good combination to provide flexibility with career options. Various options of qualifications/ certifications available to candidates

Mainly Chartered Accountancy and MBA ( Finance) both the qualifications have great prospect and opportunity to pursue one's career as a finance manager . Apart from these two qualifications , Cost and works accountancy ( ICWA) , Chartered financial Analysts ( CFA ) , Cost and management accountancy ( CMA ) , Certified public Accountant ( CPA ) some duel professional courses with specialisation of Finance is helpful to widen knowledge and skills .

Through 2012 , employment of financial managers should grow about as fast as the average for all occupations. Despite expected steady growth that should match growth of the general economy , competition will be keen for position in financial management because there will be probably be more applicants than job openings . employers will look for candidates with expertise in accounting and finance , and will be especially interested in those with a master degree. Beyond these basic qualifications competitive candidates will have strong computer skills, will be familiar with international finance and will have excellent communication skills , since finance managers work on strategic planning teams .
