Tourism as a subject is offered at the undergraduate level as also in vocational colleges in the country. Polytechnics also offer training programmes in certain aspects tourism and travel for example in ticketing and reservation. The level of qualification leads to jobs in travel agencies as well as in government departments, airlines and hotels but does not offer prospects for much growth and promotion in the industry. The most professional training in travel and tourism is available in the form of the postgraduate diploma and degree programmes provided y many universities and institutes in the country. These programmes are usually open to graduates in any discipline. Familiarity with Indian history and culture and knowledge of foreign languages are desirable and proficiency in English is essential. IATA's international travel and tourism training programme is designed to give you the skills and knowledge to maximize career opportunities in this rapidly growing industry.
