Hello!

Trust this finds you well. Thank you for choosing Mera career guide and writing to us.

The role of an interior designer requires a person to be involved in interior designing, decoration and functionality of the space offered by his client. The client could be from any industries like education, MNC offices, hospital, professional beauty salons or a residential property.

Before sticking to the designers' office, a designer needs to first visit the clients space that needs designing. The designer has to first study the space shape and sizes that the client is willing to get designed. After a few hours spent in initial studying, the designer sits with the client for a meeting to talk. This talk will be briefly to understand the clients' needs and expectations of the designer. Then the designer could offer suggestions with planning and designing that the client may be interested in. If the designer had carried a portfolio of his design works to the client's site, it could be of a great help. The designer normally shows some pictures of his designs to give the client some flavor of his works. The designer needs to clearly communicate his ideas to the client. After a few minutes, when they agree upon a particular sets of design, they are open to negotiate on the costs required to get the designing done. A designer needs to have very good negotiating skills to convince the client and win the order at his desired cost level. Until now the designer work is set outside his office.

After the meeting, the designer leave his clients site and gets to his office. It is now he sits in his cabin to do the technical calculations and designing stuff. It is not that a designer needs to be confided to his office space all the time. He can switch tasks that may help him to move into a new space within the office. The designer works on the design that his client had requested and often needs to telephone or email the client to update them with the process. After the design is drawn up, the designer is seen working usually only at the client's site to overlook the activities.

This role never restricts the designer to his office and computer, and it does require frequent meetings with the client and also visiting the designing site. However, the role of an interior designer varies from client to client. To give you some insight into how a day in the life of an interior designer will be, I am pinning in a video for you.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
