Hi thanks for helping. I am quite confused about taking humanities or science

The thing is I'm quite sure that I would do a mass media degree or fashion studies degree because I love creativity But my parents are saying it better to take science(which I dont like much) to be on a safer side,but like I said I'm sure to take a mass media Degree. Please Help

Hi there....


Career is something one chooses for a lifelong rather than something we just wish to pass our time with.


Since you have mentioned that you are very much sure, you wish to pursue Mass media in future, then just go for it.
Now the point is convincing your Parents, as they are worried about your future.

Since Media is a line, which is very volatile, its like today you are at the top, tomorrow someone else will be at the top.
But most importantly it takes many years of struggle, creativity, innovativeness, people skills and hardwork to reach at the top. Most importantly you must have the right contacts and the right field for you to succeed.
But this does not mean that you cannot take up media in future.
It all depends on which field in Media are you interested in.

Media can be in terms of:
  • Advertisements
  • Journalism
  • Public relations
  • Reporter
  • Editor
  • Channel heads

  • Production / Director
  • Script writers

As you see there are many options and all options are definitely a struggle to reach at the top level.

But fields like a Public relations officer, Journalist, Advertisements, Editors etc are a secured job.
Though in these fields also you need to struggle, but your work is counted rather than just your contacts.
Where work is given more importance, it gets easier with your hardwork to move up the ladder.


Now please note that to pursue media, after 12th, you need to get into BMM. The eligibility for BMM is any stream 12th.
Now mainly students from the ARTS background opt for a BMM course.
Since your parents are keen on you taking the Science stream, it would be good if you could pursue Science and then if you find it a little difficult you could explain your parents why you wish to change your stream.

Also convince them, how you could make a career in the media industry also. But before that, please do check your creativity and visualization skills as well as your ability to convince people and maintain relations.

Choose a line which you are good at, not just based on your likings.
