If you are thinking about this field you must be prepared in some way to pursue this career.But i think you are stuck up some where , i will make it easy for you don't worry.

Cost accounting managers play an integral role in a companies financial operations.They assist in decision making by establishing budgets and tracking costs of various processes and departmental activities.Cost accounting managers work on internal documents than the financials for public review.

I will give you a detail about the aptitude and the interests a person should have if he/she is planning to move into this sector.

First of all let me assure you that becoming a cost accounting manager is a great career choice .You should have some of the abilities required for this field they are as follows-

1) Ability to work independently.
2) Ability to grasp complex financial data.
3) Ability to think critically.

5) Excellent oral communication skills
6) Good organizational and follow up skills
7) Strong general business skills
8) Accounting expertise

Some of the employers give preference to previous experience of the candidates,which can be obtained through summer job or internship programs while pursuing a degree.Some prefer to hire candidates that hold certification as a certified public accountant or certified management accountant.
Advanced position with higher starting salaries may require a graduate degree such as MBA with a specialization in accounting and finance.

some employers are very considerate,they even offer opportunities for continuing education.It is possible to gain an entry-level position with a bachelor's degree and use tuition assistance to further your education.
