Interesting career option.

To make a career in the Hotel Industry, you would have to be a Hotel management student. Hotel management can be pursued by any 12th clear student, but after clearing the entrance exam. Please note majority of the University have an entrance exam. The entrance exam consists of GK, current affairs and logical reasoning.

The course is for 3 years. But it is not just a theoretical course, but would consist of practicals too. Whereby you would be attending lectures in the morning and would be allocated a hotel where you work as an intern in the evening. Please note after you Graduate, you would be working in shift timings in any hotel any designation.

While you are interning, you would be exposed to all the departments of the hotel namely,

• Front Desk
• Food and Beverage
• Housekeeping
• Service Department ( Waiter)

Please note that at this time, you would have to do all sorts of menial jobs right from cleaning to serving food to changing bedsheets to guiding the customers etc.

The reason being, that once you Graduate, you would be admitted in a  Hotel as Manager, who would be mainly monitoring the lower staffs and hence you need to know the groundwork to work as a supervisor later.

You could also opt for a masters degree whereby you could chose a specialization, right from catering to front desk to beverages. Choice is yours.

Please note another way to join the Hotel industry is to join the HR /Admin department or the Finance department. For these department, you need not be a Hotel management Graduate. After a Graduation any stream, you could pursue an MBA degree by clearing the entrance exam and group discussion followed by Personal interview.
