Hello,

Thank you for reaching Mera careerguide.com

I am not sure what you are doing at present. Little information about your education background would have helped me understand better to direct youwith more information. However, I would like to give you some of my thoughts. Before I suggest you something, I would request and suggest you to take psychometric tests through MeraCareer guide.com

Some of the things that I would like to talk about psychiatrist is as below which you may have to know if you are willing to take up Psychiatry as a major:

  • Psychiatrist must balance personal compassion and Professional demeanor.
  • Psychiatrist first need a strong work ethic to complete the lengthy and intensive educational requirements just to get into this career.
  • You must complete medical school, plus residency in a psychiatric setting.
  • Your education and training hopefully comement personal qualities that give you the necessary aptitudes to succeed in diagnosing and treating disorders or conditions.

1. Great Interpersonal skills

  • Psychiatry work inherently involves a high degree of interaction between doctor and patient. Physicians ask questions to identify the source of a patient's ailments, but psychiatrist can make diagnoses only after thorough interaction with patients.
  • You must have the ability to ask effective questions, listen carefully to individual answers and how they coincide with previous information shared and show genuine interest in the patients needs.
  • During this investigative process, you hopefully develop the rapport you need to get a patient to listen openly to treatment recommendations such as medications or therapy

2. Perceptive Abilities

  • Closely connected to your communication skills are strong perceptive abilities. This means that beyond hearing what a patient says, you can guage non verbal gestures and facial expressions to perceive unspoken feelings and thoughts. This helps in fromulating probing questions to dig deeper into the contributing factors in a patients disorder.
  • Perceptions is also valudable when you work with a couple or a child and her parents.
  • In some cases, patients are relectant to speak freely when a spouse or parent is present. Recognising this reluctance, you can ask to speak with the child or spouse individually.

3. Flexibility and Versatility

  • On the surface, a psychiatrist day seems fairly predictable. You may have six to seven typical meetings with patients. However, each case usually includes unique people and situations.
  • You may have achild patient who needs one type of interaction and care and an adult with anger management issues who follows and requires very different care. Additionally you might go from an initial diagnoses visit with one patient immediately into a follow up visit or therapeutic visit with another.

4. Problem solving and Adaptability

  • Medical Professionals are problem solvers. As a psychiatrist you uncover the mental problems of a patient and work toward the correct treatment plan or resolution.
  • This may include the ability to consider unusual or alternative therapies or to help a patient get teatment despite financial challenges.
  • Coinciding with problem solving abilities, a psychiatrist needs adaptability.
  • You may have particular medications or treatments that you prefer that may not make sense for a particular client.
  • Psychiatry evolves over times as well. Thus you nee to read journals and attend to stay on top of new methods of care.

Hope this helps as well which you will have to apply during your career as psychiatrist
