I chose to become a Career Counsellor because while working as a teacher in various schools, I had abundant opportunities to interact with the students and had first hand information about the facilities in school. This made me realise that our schools are not equipped in Career Counselling. Though there is guidance for career selection in some of the schools, it is not scientifically done. Even reputed schools fail in this aspect. To help and guide, especially the students, I chose to become a Career Counsellor.

When a student or a professional comes to me for counselling, first thing that I do is establish rapport and connect with them by asking few general questions and exchange of pleasantries. I tell them briefly about myself with respect to my knowledge and experience in the field. I also tell them what I can offer, how I would guide them and help them. I take up both online/offline mode of counselling. The same will be mentioned to them.

Typically, my sessions are spread across 4 sessions. The first session is rapport building, to discuss the expectations of the student/professional from the sessions, what I can offer them and how we would go about with the whole process. In the second session, student/professional takes up online Psychometric Test/Tests specially formulated by CareerGuide. Here I would like to mention the accurate results that one gets by taking the scientifically designed Psychometric Tests by Career Guide. My students/clients are one hundred percent satisfied with the test results. When the student is taking the test online, I am available to them over the phone, to attend to any requirements/guidance. The third session is discussion of the report along with parents/guardian, and explaining to them how the report was generated, to discuss the aspects/areas like interest, aptitude, motivation, personality etc., that were considered to arrive at the result. Other steps that the student/professional has to consider to choose a career like: make a final conclusion after doing thorough research, the resources that are needed/available like time and money to complete the course of their choice and where they would use the knowledge that they would gain after completing the course will be discussed. I give them some time to do the research work. The fourth session is to assess and discuss the research work that they have done with respect to their choice and the final decision that is made. Once the final decision is made I help them with the list of colleges and various options in that particular field one can have and also the list of entrance exam/exams etc. As I am a Psychologist, I also address any emotional concerns that they may have. Regular follow-up will be done and also referral to specialists/fellow career counsellors would be undertaken if there is a need.
