Becoming a pilot is a long process but a process which is worth the hard work and the effort. To become a Pilot the first requirement is that you should be 12th with Maths and Physics as your subjects. After this you should do a class 2 medical and get a computer number from DGCA and a File number. Having done this you should look for a good flying school which would help you to fly and also have a good ground school. Join the flying school and then you have to appear for exams with director general civil aviation

. These exams are held every three months and are conducted 4 times a year. The subjects are Navigation, Air regulations, Technical general, Technical Specific, Meteorology. Along with this you have to appear for the radio telephone exam with the ministry of communication. Having taken care of the exams you have to do 200 hrs of flying on a trainer aircraft and this covers basic flying, general handling, navigation procedures, night flying, cross country flying, instrument flying and a few tests. Once you have completed these you submit the papers to director general civil aviation and get a license issued. Along with all these papers you need verification of the mark sheets of 10 and 12th from the board where you did the exams and a police verification before you start flying. Once you have got a license then you could apply to airlines and other places to fly as a commercial pilot. To join Director general of civil aviation you will have to gain experience as a pilot, upgrade yourself to getting the airline transport pilot licence after giving DGCA exams and having done 1500 hours of flying. The next step is to become a check pilot in the airline and then an instructor and an examiner in the airline. These processes take some time and are based onthe experience one has. After you have achieved this you can apply to DGCA for becoming an Flying Inspector with DGCA. The vacancies for this are listed by DGCA from time to time. This is if you want to join DGCA as a pilot. But if you want to join as any other branch then you need to be a graduate and then go and pass UPSC exams for the post that is available and through the UPSC exam you can join DGCA. In that case you do not have to become a pilot. There your duties would be very different.
