Hi

Many thanks for contacting us to resolve your query. Engineering itself is a vast ocean and manufacturing engineering is one of its branches, just like mechanical, electrical, chemical and electronics. If you want to be a researcher in Manufacturing engineering, there are two options but both will start ideally with a phd degree. you should consider doing a phd in manufacturing engineering and only then you can be a research scholar in this field. This field involves manufacturing of any machines that the world requires. So it gives you a variety of options for you to choose the career of your choice. You can choose to work in
1. Automotive: that involves manufacturing auto mobiles like cars, vehicles and trucks. You can find employment with Ford, Hyundai, Suzuki, Chrysler and many more.
2. Mechanical engineering: where you can understand the mechanism of the body that is functioning . You can find employment with any company that involves in manufacturing machines, like washing machines, or any other electrical appliances.
3. Robotics: that involves designing and manufacturing robots. this branch is constantly evolving in USA and Germany.
4. Aero engines: it involves with the study and designing of aeroplane engines. you can work with top aero engine manufacturing companies like Rolls Royce, GE.
5. Aeronautical engineering: it involves the construction of air crafts body and its mechanical systems inside. you can find work opportunities with Boeing, Airbus who are world recognised leader in manufacturing aircraft bodies.
6
. Chemical engineering: this study involves in manufacturing of chemicals. you will study about inventing new chemicals on a large scale. It is an interesting field for research.
there are still many more branches of manufacturing engineering and its job opportunities are definitely big. you will have something to work in this industry until the minute the world stops functioning. As a researcher you need to research continuously and invent new things now and then as people's usage and preference also fastly change and they are seeking new ones so quickly.
As a researcher in manufacturing engineering, you have two work options. With a PhD you can continue to work at the university, as the university will support you with lab facilities to help you do your research. Else you should consider working for the research and development departments commonly known as R&D in companies. They recruit candidates with PhD or at least with a minimum of 10-15 years work expertise, to get involved in continuous research. Please contact me if you have further questions. Good luck.
