The main work and responsibilities of a Business Analyst are described as below:

1. Data Collection:This takes a lot of time and is an important part of a Business Analyst role. The data and the information is the foundation of any business case that they work on. Well researched data is required and is maintained in such a format that it makes a sense. They have to look for patterns. They have to consider the important parameters and ignore the factors that do not matter.

2. Analytics:Working on analytics tools is again an important part of the life of a Business Analyst. The tools help them to see the relations between various variables and help them in understanding the overall meaning of the data. They take a lot of help from consultants and managers while coming to any conclusion in their hypothesis.

3. Reporting:This part is important from management point of view. Senior management is often not very curious about the tools and the technicalities involved in the business case. They go by the process and the results. Therefore a
Business Analyst has to prepare the presentable reports that could be submitted to the semior leaders. They may also be required to submit these reports to the clients. In either case one has to be extremely careful about their presentation skills.

These are the key areas on which every Business Analyst works most of the times. Of course there are several other tasks that they do, but they spend maximum time doing these three activities.
