A photographer can easily work as a free lancer if he or she wants to. They just need to have the right contacts and then they can start their journey as free lancer. There will be many things to consider for them, which have been explained below:

1. They first need to build the right contacts with the photo agencies or the companies that they will be working for. Choosing the clients is a tough job and usually takes a lot of time. Once they have the contacts then only they can go ahead with their work otherwise not.

2. As a free lancer it gives them a lot of space and time to explore their own creative genius and click more artistic pictures. Since they have no pressure in restricting themselves to a particular genre, they can explore new avenues and click more amazing photographs.

3. As a free lancer, the salary will not be regular. Sometimes you will have huge sum coming in and then sometimes you have nothing. You will have to manage accordingly. Please make the arrangements according to that only. Remember that it won't be a regular source of income and therefore money is not a surety in this case.

4. If you are working as a free lancer, chances are that you won't be restricted to a one particular location. Therefore you can travel a lot, which is often the hobby of the photographers and then see new places, learn new things and experiment more with your style of photography.

5. You will have to deal with the pressure of everything by yourself. The free lancer concept is like a one man army where you don't have office colleagues to help you out in various stages of the project. That way the responsibility level goes way up and therefore more pressure can be on the mind of an individual. It is important that one deals with the pressure calmly and doesn't choke oneself with it.

Hope the above mentioned points were helpful and will guide you to take your decision.

Hello

Thank you for choosing Meracareerguide and writing to us. I understand you are interested in freelancing your photography. It really depends on what type of photographer you are. There are many types of photography and professionals involved with the respective divisions. To mention a few, landscape photography, wildlife photography, Aerial photography, Wedding photography, Fashion photography, Sports photography, Event photography, Architectural photography, Macro photography, Micro photography, Family photography. There are even further options but I have just put in a few here.

Lets say you are currently a family photographer who works with families to capture their moments and frame it. As a freelancer you can contact families you already know to do some photographs for them. With that pictures and with the families consent, you can try marketing your work. Create a portfolio of your works. Carefully pick those photos that are extraordinarily captured. Pile them up as a portfolio and use it when approaching new families. You may also think of creating your own website and uploading your portfolio and contacting details on it. It is not that you can restrict your work with freelancing to family photography. You can use your same camera lens and equipments to do wedding photography too.

As a freelancer you can do wedding photography. You can fix your own costs. You may hire assistants if you want to. But this requires a lot of travelling and be ready to accept assignments that come beyond your geographical area. It is also advisable to work under an expert who is a professional in wedding photography. You could work with the wedding professionals for at least a year, ask them to mentor you and take you along with weddings that they attend. You can initiate one on your own after being a trainee for at least one year. To better market yourself as a freelancer, create some low price reasonable packages initially until you gain your career momentum. You can use facebook as a creative marketing tool. Facebook has an option to create a page for your business. You can create a page and upload the photographs you captured at your client's functions. Take the consent of the client before you create a portfolio or uploading them on your website / facebook page. As your facebook page gets popular with more people liking your work, you are deemed to increased opportunities. You can also use Flickr to upload your works. You can also have contracts signed up with Fujifilm, Kodak moments. They will pass on potential clients to you. They can also put some of your works on their display at their office. You have a variety of websites that function in the sector you are working in. For example, websites related to wedding, blogs related to bridal and wedding can carry your advertisement. Use these options while freelancing and you are sure to rock.

All the best.
