A Career in Freelancing: How to Attract New Clients

Freelancing is becoming more viable a career for many young and established adults. You don’t need to face the regular nine-to-five drive, you can easily make your skills into a business of your own. However, to achieve this, you will need to attract clients. Come off too strong, and you might put them off; too distant, and they’ll take their business elsewhere. Some clients may simply want to know that you’re the best person for the job, whereas others like to be wined and dined. It is up to you to know how to impress each one.

Learn What You Can About Them

Before you can know what a client likes and how he or she likes to be treated, you need to learn a little bit more about them. Of course, what you will need to find out from your client will depend on what you do. If you are a financial advisor or an investment broker, your clients will likely be high-profile individuals who have a particular set of preferences. If, however, you are a builder, the only thing that you need to learn is what they want to see in their new home.

Every client is different, and by taking the time to get to know them and their preferences, you can be sure to win them over. freelancing

Give Them a Plan of Action

Once you know a bit more about them, you can improve on how you communicate with them. The next step, however, is to take what you know about them, and what they want from you, and create an effective business plan. Clients want more than meaningless words. Instead, they want action, and by giving them a clear layout of how you will proceed and what your plans are, you can give it to them.

Take It Out of the Office

It can be hard to build a rapport with a client when it only happens in your office or over the phone. Instead, take it into a more relaxed area. You could impress them by choosing an event from Ticket Sales, or take them out to dinner. By taking your business outside of the office, you can build a real relationship with your client that will help them trust you and like you more. When communication is key to your business, building a great rapport can help your client tell you what they want more effectively. Trying to express yourself to a stranger is difficult, therefore, improve your relationship, and you will be able to do more for your client.

Keep Communication Going

All of your hard work getting your client to trust you and like you will go to waste if you aren’t communicative. Write email updates on the progress, show pictures if that’s applicable, and so on. If your client doesn’t like to be constantly updated, put together a Google Doc with your progress so that if they are ever curious, they can check in.

Working with clients means doing your best to ensure that not only can you do a great job for them, but that they trust you and can efficiently communicate what they expect.
