Yes, of course, you are eligible for appearing in the NET (National Eligibility Test) with having a Master degree from the IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University). The IGNOU is well known and national level Open University and is established by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1985. The courses of the IGNOU are recognized by the UGC (University Grant Commission) and AIU (Association of Indian Universities) for the purpose of further education in regular courses. Every college and University in India accepts the IGNOU degree for the educational related matter like admissions, entrance exam, etc.

Apart from having a Master Degree you need to fulfill other such eligibility criteria as specified by the UGC for the purpose of appearing in the NET exam.

Eligibility Criteria in brief for appearing in NET Exam:

  • A candidate is required to possess a Master Degree from a recognized Indian University
  • Minimum 55% marks are needed at Master level
  • The OBC/SC/ST/PWD candidates will have relaxation of 5% and these candidates are needed to have 50% score in their Master Degree.
  • Exempted categories (OBC/SC/ST/PWD) are required to produce proof of category.
  • IF you have done Ph.D. and your Master Degree dated prior to 1989 then you will have 5% relaxation that is you need 50% in Master degree.
  • Degree from a foreign institution needs to be ascertained to confirm the equivalency of that specific degree/diploma with the Master Degree of the Indian university. You need to confirm this from the AIU (Association of Indian Universities)
  • You are advised to appear for the subject in NET from which you have secured your Post gradated degree.

Dear aspirant, you just verify if you are fulfilling the above criteria as well apart from the Master Degree. The one thing is that your degree is valid for NET purpose and you can appear for the test. The NET is conducted mainly for selection of Assistant Professor and Junior level Research Fellowship (JRF). The NET is conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Examination) on behalf of the UGC. So you can fill up the online application for this coming NET.
