Dear Riya,

Thanks for getting in touch with me on your inquiry. May I know in which subject you wanted to do your PhD? You have only mentioned on doing a PhD in Delhi and if you could offer more details on this, I could help better. However as a ground-breaking rule, I shall offer some basic insights into applying for a PhD.

To be able to apply for a PhD,
1. You should have had a basic graduate degree (Bachelors degree) in a relevant subject and have obtained a minimum of 60%. If you belong to SC/ST you can be expected to have 55% and above.
2. A two year Masters degree is mostly essential, again with a 60% passing criteria.
3. You should have passed UGC NET or UGC JRF position. These exams take place twice every year, usually in June/ July and in December. You can find plenty of materials online for preparing for the UGC NET exam. The syllabus for your subject is on the UGC website itself you can download it from there.

To be able to apply for a PhD in any subject except Management, the above three criteria is mandatory. However for Management, meeting up a fourth criteria is essential, i.e. you should have passed either CAT/ GATE/ GRE/ GMAT to be able to apply for a PhD in Management. To study at the IIM's CAT/ GRE/ GMAT is essential. At ISB Hyderabad either GRE/ GMAT is mandatory. At IIT's GATE/ CAT is mandatory, else UGC NET will alone do.

If you could write back to me more specifically on what you want to study, I can be of more help in that instance. I look forward to hearing from you. My best wishes to you.
