Dear Aspirant,

What is happening to Engineers these days? All seem to change the stream entirely and all the efforts, parents money and time goes waste. I would surely want you to re-think on your decision to change stream.

Once you decide to change the stream, everything comes to zero and you have start as if you are not a graduate in that field.

Development Studies is a part of social sciences and is Economics based.

Development studies is a multidisciplinary branch of social science. Development studies is offered as a specialised Master's degree in a number of universities, and, less commonly, as an undergraduate degree.

Development studies include:

Area studies
Community development
Demography
Demographics
Development communication
Development theory
Ecology
Economic development
Engineering
Environmental studies
Geography
Human rights
Human security
Industrialization
International development
Migration studies
Pedagogy
Public health
Social policy
Social development
Social work
Urbanization
Women's studies

Scope in India is good. Salary package ranges from Rs. 15,000 and above.

Jobs are available in NGOs, Research Institutes / Universities, Social corporate companies, schools, colleges, etc.

To be best sure of what suits you for your career, I would suggest you to undergo an online psychometric test from CareerGuide which will help you understand yourself in respect of your strengths, weaknesses, emotional quotient, etc. and will exactly tell you which stream is good for you.

Best wishes,

Dr. Anand Wadadekar
