Dear aspirant, to become a fishery scientist you have to have a degree (masters or doctoral degree) in fishery science. A masters degree program in fishery science is one of the suitable higher study options as far as zoology graduates are concerned. The fishery science encompasses the study of life, habits and breeding of various species of fish in fresh and marine waters.
This is not a new subject and fish breeding is very big business and industry. Fishing in high seas, preservation and marketing of sea products need variety of trained and professional persons. The fishery induatry is today is an emerging field. At even small ponds, hatcheries are quite common and prawn industries are also spreading since it is an export oriented industry. Fish preservation, freezing and canning is done at the coastal and inland factories.
Fishery science can be studied at BSc and MSc level, entry for BSc is with a qualification of 10+2 having physics, chemistry and biology subjects.
The central institute of fisheries education (CIFE) in Mumbai is a deemed university and one of the leading centers of training in this field. There are various departments, such as aqua culture, fish breeding, fish nutrition, fishery technology, aquatic environment, fish processing technology and fish genetics.
The CIFE has many zonal centers all over the India such as salt lake (Kolkatta), Rohtak (Haryana), Chinhutt (Uttar Pradesh), Pavarkeda (Madhya Pradesh), Kakkinada (Andhra Pradesh),

This institution also offer a two years in Masters in Fishery sciences (MFSc). Post graduate diploma in inland fishery administration and management is also offered by CIFE Kolkatta.
There are other many universities also, which offers degree and diploma programs in Fishery.
To become a scientist, you must have a minimum degree of Masters in Fishery sciences. Since now a days the time is very competitive, therefore I would like to suggest you that after masters degree in fishery, you should also go for doctoral degree program. The duration of a doctoral degree program is three years or six semesters. You may carry out your research programs on fish rearing, fish breeding, fish process and cold chain management.
As a fish scientist, you may start your own research group in university or institute.
Good Luck....
