I am interested in doing MBA. I need advice for it? Does I am eligible for MBA and in future it help me?

My Acad. are as following=> 10th =>61%(CBSE)- 2006 pass out , 12th => 66% (CBSE)-2008 pass out, B.Sc Multimedia & Animation => 58% (PTU Dep) . work ex => as of now 26 months , till Fed 2014. I am a male , General Category Candidate. In this 26 months I work with one national news channel for 9 months & then left my job to work as a Freelancer project & recently join vfx company (May. 2014). I have experience to work as an Digital artist. Sir, can u please tell me the chances of which IIM should I target? and required percentiles approximately for them. . Apart from IIM’s does my profile fit for other top B School like XLRI, spjain, FMS, JBIMS, MDI, MICA etc. THANKS in advance.

It is appreciating to see your thought of studying an MBA program. While it is mandatory to score a minimum first class of 60% throughout your education years, it is highly required to have some reasonably well to do scores and this says preferably 75% and above. However as you have close to 2 years of work experience, this helps you stand better for being selected for an MBA program.

Almost any top ranked B-Schools in India requires the following components while considering a student for an admission onto their MBA/ PGPM program.
  • Excellent academic credentials, although a minimum first class is mandatory.
  • A top profiled CAT score
  • Few years of work experience, ideally two years. This sounds as a very good resume.

With your case, you are actually eligible to apply for PGPM/ MBA admission within India. But securing a place is highly dependent on how well you crack your CAT score. Almost all the B-Schools in India, give high importance to CAT scores along with other academic credentials. And therefore it is necessary for you to achieve a top score in CAT. Although you have scored pretty average and decent scores in your education, you can convince the B-Schools with a high CAT score and also with your two years of work experience. So the only thing you need to concentrate from now on is to focus and CAT exam and crack it high. You can also take support of some CAT coaching class and to my knowledge, the best and national renowned CAT coaching centre is the 'TIME' coaching class. It is available in every city in India and also efficient enough to train you well for a place in IIM's or the top B-Schools.

You can also try for an MBA seat with the ISB Hyderabd. They should be happy with your scores and they demand two years of work experience as minimum on papers. They also require a GMAT score preferably 650 and above out of 800. If you are happy to take GMAT, then ISB can be your ideal choice.

If you want to concentrate on IIM's, with your academic scores and a very good CAT percentile, you can focus on IIM Trichy, IIM Shillong, IIM Raipur, IIM Rohtak, IIM Ranchi, IIM Udaipur and IIM Kashipur. You can also try for Symbiosis Pune, MDI Gurgoan, FMS Delhi, JBIMS and XLRI.

The only thing that will add some weight to your application is the CAT score. If you can crack CAT then you can convince most of the schools in the personal interview round. Hope this helps. All the best.

The colleges which you have mentioned are good. You can target any IIM, all are considered good, but for taking admission in any IIM you need to appear for CAT exam at score around 99 percentile. Other then this you can target Jamia Malia, Lovely Professional University, Xavier Institute and NMIMS.

Dear Aspirant,

With an MBA you wont be anyway related to the graphics and designing and animation field.

Are you sure you want to do MBA? Why have you decided about MBA only and not any other course which is advanced in your graphics and digital media? Has anybody told you to do MBA just for the sake of it.

Your work experience is far better than an MBA fresher. Your previous experience wont be useful after you do MBA. So think once again.
