what is with the entrances of these sort of courses?how should i prepare for it and is Amity a good Choice?
Dear Aspirant,
Thanks for approaching us at CareerGuide.com!
Studying Entrepreneurship at an undergraduate level is not recommended. Such courses come up since the trend of startups is on high.
I would suggest you to take a formal basic education in the under graduate level and then in the post graduate level you may choose Entrepreneurship courses. However I would suggest you to build a strong base of domain knowledge, since for becoming an entrepreneur you need to have the business model, product/service perfect and workable.
To be best sure of what suits you for your career, I would suggest you to undergo an online psychometric test from CareerGuide which will help you understand yourself in respect of your strengths, weaknesses, emotional quotient, etc. and will exactly tell you which stream is good for you.You can then call counsellors to discuss.
Best wishes,
Dr. Anand Wadadekar
Thanks for putting up the query. You have asked four key questions and I would to answer one by one.
(1) Is there scope in future if I go for Bachelors in Entrepreneurship? Scope depend on what do you expect from the course. Why do you want to pursue the Bachelors in Entrepreneurship? Do you want to start own business or want to do job?
If you want to start own business, then, doing short term courses would be more useful than doing under-graduate course (Bachelors). If you want to become a consultant or want to enter into academics or service, then Bachelors, Masters and M Phil/PhD would be helpful.
Overview of EntrepreneurshipAn entrepreneur is someone who organizes and operates a business, who invests in innovations and is willing to take on greater than normal risks in order to see his or her vision become a reality. Entrepreneurship courses will develop the analytical abilities and strategic competencies necessary for students who wish to become entrepreneurs or are already part of a growing business. Practical skills covered in many Entrepreneurship courses include identifying entrepreneurial opportunities, creating a business plan, securing financial backing and coordinating business growth.
Several Entrepreneurship courses are short programs, designed to help entrepreneurs grow their business. Other Entrepreneurship courses are bachelors, masters, post graduate diploma, and PhD courses. Selection of course and specific institutes should be informed by your career objective.
Following are list of institutes offer under-graduate and graduate courses in India and abroad:Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Gandhinagar,IndiaSP Jain Institute if Management, Mumbai, IndiaIndian Institute of ManagementCentre for Entrepreneurial Learning, University if Cambridge Judge Business SchoolIBT College, Canada
(2) Should I go for Indian Colleges or Abroad?
This decision again should be informed by your career objective and resources you have. If you want to do business in India or work in India, I would suggest you to study in India. EDII is one of the best institute which facilitate student to get business loan if any students have brilliant business plan.
If you plan to settle abroad then should pursue study from the country where you want to work or operate your business.
(3) What is with the entrances of these sort of courses? How should i prepare for it ? Each college and institute has its own selection process. I would request you to check with respective colleges or institutes.
(4) Amity a good Choice?
Any institute is best if it answers your curiosity and respond to your needs and career objective. EDII considered to be one of the best institute to study entrepreneurship in Asia. However, you choice of specific college/institute should be guided by your career objective, what it provides to you and resources you have.
Hope this helps you. If you have any other queries, feel free to write back to me or talk to me.
Best Wishes, Apurva
