Building and Construction is one of the most promising and fast growing sectors in the country. While Agriculture is the largest sector which provides largest number of jobs, construction stans second. It is a perception that Info.Tech or Banking or Retail is the second largest sector which provides jobs, but that is not true really.

Today Building and Construction industry is facing huge shortage of managerial talent as well as the skill at the site level right from plumbing to project management. Therefore the Govt. of India has take initiative to build this skill level in the industry by offering vocational courses related to every thing in the construction and building sector as well as the infrastructure sector as a whole. Infrastructure sector includes real estate, construction, power, transport, energy, logistics, oil and gas, petroleum and tele communication.

The Govt. of India through NSDC which stands for National Skill Development Council has launched a tremendous program to train the construction and building workers. NSDC has tiedup with various educational institutes in India to impart the vocation training. Also AICTE which is a governing body for technical education in the country has also introduced vocational courses in this sector apart from other service of manufacturing sector realising the need for trained and skilled workforce the industry is facing shortage of.

You can visit the NSDC and AICTE website for complete information on the various types of courses offered and also you can get the list of educational institutes which are providing training courses for building and construction. One of the upcoming institutes which is dedicated towards training construction workers, managers, etc is based at Pune known as Samvit School of Infrastructure Business.

This Institute is also a Partner Institution of CIDC - Construction Industry Development Council, which comes under the Planning Commission of Govt. of India. Samvit is India's Only Dedicated Construction B-School.

I would suggest that if you are not doing a job right now or don't want to do it, then a full time course in construction and project management will be a good long term bet for you instead of the vocational courses offered currently by the above mentioned authorities.

A PG in Construction & Project Management will be the best considering the growth and shortage of professionals in the construction and infrastructure industry.

Best of Luck
