A Dietitian/Nutritionist are experts in the use of food and nutrition to promote health and manage disease. A Dietitian/Nutritionist is responsible for assessing people’s needs using scientific methods and determining the most suitable nutrition plans. They advise the patients’ and clients on what to eat in order to lead a healthy lifestyle. They help the patients’ and clients’ achieve a specific health-related goal. They develop and analyze menus for school menus, sports team, and residential care and workplace restaurants. They provide nutritional information for food production and help to secure approval for health claims on packaging. They also consult with doctors and healthcare professionals during diet-planning process.
After completing relevant B.Sc. and M.Sc. courses, one must go through 6-month long internship at any hospitals recognized by the IDA OR possess 2 years work experience at any multidisciplinary hospital as a dietician.

Students after completing Post Graduate Diploma in Nutrition & Dietetics or a M.Sc. in Food & Nutrition, followed by a 6-months internship after graduation is eligible for the entrance exam for Registration Dietitian (RD) by Indian Dietetic Association (IDA). Exam held in December.
