JEE Main

JEE Main is a highly competitive entrance exam that is considered to be one of the toughest exams in India. The exam is conducted in online mode, and the duration of the exam is 3 hours. The exam pattern consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and numerical value-based questions, which are designed to test the candidate’s knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The exam is conducted twice a year, usually in January and April.

Paper 1 of JEE Main is for admission to undergraduate engineering programs (B.E./B.Tech). It consists of 90 questions – 30 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The Physics and Chemistry sections contain both MCQs and numerical value-based questions, whereas the Mathematics section only contains MCQs. The maximum marks for Paper 1 are 300, and for each correct answer, 4 marks will be awarded, and for each incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted.

Paper 2 of JEE Main is for admission to undergraduate architecture programs (B.Arch/B.Plan). It consists of three parts – Mathematics, Aptitude Test, and Drawing Test. The Mathematics and Aptitude Test sections contain 30 questions each, and the Drawing Test section has two questions. The Mathematics and Aptitude Test sections contain both MCQs and numerical value-based questions, whereas the Drawing Test section is subjective. The maximum marks for Paper 2 are 400, and for each correct answer, 4 marks will be awarded, and for each incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted (except for numerical value-based questions).

JEE Main 2023 Mock Tests

Mock tests are a great way to prepare for JEE Main 2023. They help you assess your preparation level, identify your strengths and weaknesses, and provide an opportunity to practice time management skills. Here are some sources where you can find JEE Main 2023 mock tests:

  1. Official JEE Main website: The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the JEE Main exam and provides official mock tests on its website. These tests are designed to simulate the actual exam and give you a feel of the test environment.
  2. Coaching institutes: Many coaching institutes also provide JEE Main mock tests to their students. These tests are designed by subject matter experts and are often modeled after the actual exam.
  3. Online portals: Several online portals offer JEE Main mock tests, including Imbibe, Topper, and more. These tests are typically designed by experts and can be accessed from anywhere, making them a convenient option for students.
  4. Previous year question papers: Previous year question papers can also be used as mock tests. Solving these papers under timed conditions can help you get a feel of the exam and identify areas that need more practice.

JEE Main Exam Day Guidelines

  1. Arrive at the exam center on time: Reach the exam center well ahead of the reporting time mentioned on the admit card. This will give you enough time to complete the verification process and settle down before the exam starts.
  2. Carry the necessary documents: Make sure to carry the admit card, photo ID proof, and any other documents specified in the instructions. Keep them in a safe place to avoid misplacing them.
  3. Follow the dress code: The NTA has specified a dress code for the JEE Main exam. Candidates are advised to wear simple and comfortable clothes without any elaborate embroidery or buttons. Avoid wearing shoes with thick soles, high heels, or any other footwear that could cause inconvenience during frisking.
  4. Be calm and focused: Take a few deep breaths and try to relax before the exam starts. Remember that you have prepared well and are ready to tackle the exam. Avoid getting distracted by the actions of other candidates and focus on your own exam.
  5. Manage time effectively: Time management is crucial in the JEE Main exam. Use the first few minutes to read the instructions and questions carefully. Allocate time for each section and try to complete the easier questions first.
  6. Use the rough sheets wisely: The exam center will provide you with rough sheets. Use them wisely to solve the questions and make notes if necessary. Ensure that you write your roll number and name on each sheet.
  7. Submit the answer sheet and rough sheets: Once you complete the exam, make sure to submit the answer sheet and rough sheets to the invigilator. Check that you have submitted everything and collect your belongings before leaving the exam center.

Paper Attempting Tips for JEE Main 2023

  1. Manage your time wisely: Time management is key to succeeding in JEE Main. You should aim to complete the paper within the allotted time frame, so make sure you keep track of time and allocate a specific amount of time to each section.
  2. Focus on accuracy: It’s important to be accurate in your answers as there is negative marking for incorrect answers. Rather than attempting to answer all the questions, it’s better to attempt only those questions that you are sure about.
  3. Prioritize your strengths: Every student has their strengths and weaknesses. Prioritize attempting questions that you are confident about, and leave the difficult questions for later. This way, you can maximize your score while also saving time.
  4. Don’t get stuck on one question: If you’re having trouble with a particular question, don’t spend too much time on it. Move on to the next question and come back to it later, if you have time. Remember, every question carries equal weightage, so don’t waste too much time on any one question.
  5. Use rough sheets wisely: You will be provided with rough sheets to do calculations and rough work. Use them wisely and keep them organized so that you don’t waste time searching for a particular calculation.
  6. Revise before submitting: Before submitting your answer sheet, make sure to revise your answers and check for any errors or mistakes. This can help you catch any errors you may have made and improve your overall score.
