CRPF is the largest team of Central Armed Forces of India. CRPF personnel assist the state and central police forces in police operations and they also support the state police in case of emergency, insurgency or to maintain law and order when required. CRPF are also posted ahead of potential threat to any situation. They have played an important role in maintaining order in certain severe situation such as elections in threat areas, natural disasters and severe accidents. They have also worked to protect the citizens from the civil war carried out by certain non-nationalist militants. The ability of Indian CRPF personnel has made its way to the UN contingents across the world.
As of 2010, the CRPF is the largest paramilitary organisation in the country that has a role in securing the internal security of the whole country and now they are also participating in peace keeping operations across the world. It performs a variety of duties ranging from VIP security to election duties, from guarding of vital installations to the counter-naxal operations.

1. Written Examination of two hours and consists of four sections
2. Typing and/or shorthand test

4. Physical Efficiency Test
5. Physical measurements
All those who attain minimum qualifying marks in the Written Examination have to undergo shorthand/typing test and appear for the personality test or interview. The Physical Efficiency Test, if conducted (meaning for those candidates who happen to clear the earlier rounds) consists of tests like one mile run in six and a half minutes etc. Candidates in possession of NCC ‘C’ Certificate or certificate of participation in sports meet of national level are awarded bonus marks.
