Hi shikha,

MBA is a PG degree. You need to have 55% marks in your graduation any stream to sit in MBA entrance exam.

Almost all universities/colleges conducts entrance exam for MBA program. Some enroll through common all India entrance tests like CAT, MAT etc. You can prepare your self for combined tests. Which you can appear in the last year of your graduation.

Hope this helps

All the best

Hi, I see you are currnetly on your first year of your undergraduate degree. Please understand an MBA is a post graduate degree, where in technically you should complete your bachelors degree and pass it with a minimum of 55% or ideally a first class like the 60% or above. I will brief you about studying an MBA and its admission process in India here. Once you complete your BCom degree, you can refer to the tips here.

1. Preparing for an MBA:
I get a handful of students always asking me information about doing an MBA or its job prospects. There is only one golden advice, I would like to offer to any one planning to do an MBA - 'gain some work experience and then do an MBA'. An MBA is a professional course and is not a normal postgraduate degree. Professional course means, it is meant for people who have an understanding of industry and its work functions. An MBA will involve course and case studies and for you to understand them better, you need to have prior work knowledge. Therefore to perform in your MBA degree better, to understand the theories and concepts better, it is essential to have some work experience. So in your case, I would suggest you to finish your Bcom, gain a minimum of two-three years work experience and then embark on an MBA. There is a very big advantage of studying an MBA, after a minimum of 2-3 years work experience - and it is the job prospects. Companies will prefer employing students with work experience + MBA than a fresher with an MBA. Moreover if you have work experience, you can straight away join Manager roles in a company.

There are many students who rush into an MBA because they are attracted to the MBA title or just because every one around them is doing it. Never ever do an MBA because others are doing it. It is not the ultimate course destination. check for yourself if you are really interested in doing an MBA, and the best way to identify this is taking up the psychometric test on this website. The test will declare if you are a fit to studying an MBA or not. If the test says you are fit for an MBA, then confidently move on to the next step.

2. Choose your MBA specialisation:
Choosing an MBA specialisation is equally important. An MBA has many electives like HR, Marketing, Finance, Strategy, Accounts, Project management, Supply chain and Operations management. See what you like among the options I listed here. The best way to select a specialisation is to link it to your undergarduate Bcom degree. See what is your major in your Bcom degree, if you have chosen finance in your Bcom then do an MBA with finance. This is the best strategy in choosing your specialisation however you may still try to read any other specialisation that you like.

3. Selecting the best MBA college:
There is a set of B schools that always rank high in India. You should aim to study at the top ranked b school to help you land up easily in a better job. Some of the best B schools in India are
IIM Ahmedabad, ISB Hyderabad, IIT Kharagpur Vinod Gupta school of management, IIT Madras, IIM Bangalore, FMS Delhi, IIM Calcutta, IIM Indore, IIT Bombay Shailesh Mehta school of management, IIM Lucknow, XLRI, Symbiosis, SP Jain institute of management, IMT Ghaziabad, and LIBA Chennai. So try your luck for an admission at one of the above schools.
4. Admission tests:
The common entrance test that most of the B schools in India use is CAT test. So you should go to a best CAT coaching center to score as high as possible in CAT. Other common entrance tests are XAT, MAT and to note XLRI uses XAT test. ISB Hyderabad uses either GRE or GMAT tests. So select the schools you want to apply, and accordingly get prepared with the respective admission tests.

I hope this of some help to you. All the best.
