Hello My Dear Swati, The Career Aspirant,

Firstly I would like to thank you for expressing frankly all the points in detail and the thoughts you have about your career. Congratulations for getting into the final Chartered Accountancy level and I am sure that you will clear the finals very soon and be called as a Chartered Accountant.

Reading your query, I got the impression that you are a very disciplined and sincere and serious student and interested in enhancing your career and knowledge too to take the challenges of the corporate world and business environment. This suggests that you have a very good positive and learning attitude in you which is very important these days.
In my more than seven year of career couselling experience, I have rarely come across students like you who have decided and are clear about their career goal.
Further you being a girl, you are no less than men and you have already proved it by now and shall prove it further in future and so you will definintely be a role model for other girls out there who may be less positive and less ambitions and shy to become dashing girls.

Additional degree/course along with your Chartered Accountancy course:

I understand that you are about to appear for the final attempt of the CA exam in 2015 which is a year away from now and now currently you are into article ship. Doing additional courses is very good decision.

CFA and Financial Rsik Management are really good courses. Let me tell you both shortly how they are.

CFA course is definintely a good course, however challenging andd time consuming. I suppose that after completing your Chartered Accountancy, you would wish to start working in a corporate. There fore doing CFA along with a job will be little difficult and hectic. If you are not planing to work after CA, then you may definintely join CFA course from CFA Institute, USA and study full time for CFA.

CA and CFA as a combination is fantastic and is highly paid and demanded in India and abroad as well.

If you do not feel to do CFA, I would suggest you to do a certification course in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). IFRS is replacing US GAAP and IAS too. This has tremendous scope and there are good job opportunities in the corporate.

IFRS will definitely give you an edge over others.

MBA with CA:

Later on, I would just like to suggest that go for an MBA part time from one of the top BSchools in India. MBA and Chartered Accountancy combination is regarded as best in the industry and tremendously demanded.

All the Best, Swati!

Dear Swati,

Thanks for writing to us your query! Very good question.

Well, future course after CA depends on you career goal. You can work as an independent consultant or full time employee with consultancy firm or corporates or in academia. Also, you need to determine area of work: accounting, taxation, costing, and corporate law

Based on your interest, you can do Cost Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), IFRS, MBA and also do PhD without doing any masters course.  If you are interested in academics or research, you can do PhD.

For practice and good job, CFA, IFRS would have good scope in India as well as abroad.

I am sharing the link of website that provides list of useful course that might be of your interest:

Hope this helpful in taking informed career decision!

With Best Wishes,
