Hi Rohit,
I think this question of yours has already been answered.
But still going through it once again.
Any `12th pass student with minimum 50% is eligible to study Hotel management.Though admisssion is merit based, few Institutes like,
You have options like:\
Though there are Diploma programs available but they stress only on learning a particular course like baking or food and beverages, so best is to opt for a 3 years degree course.
Please note that Hotel Management course is divided into theory and Practicals. So a student attends morning lecturers and in the second half off the day are working in hotels.
Though there are different departments in a Hotel Industry, during interns they generally work in the lower rung jobs like:
As a Hotel management graduate, some of the departments where you would likely be exposed involves:
Front Office:: It is the centre of all activities. Major tasks performed here include: providing information, making room reservations and taking care of check-ins and check-outs, besides the duties performed by the Personnel Department of any company.
Sales & Marketing: This department keeps in touch with travel agents and tour operators as well as other potential corporate clients in order to sell hotel facilities. This department also normally handles Advertising and Public Relations.
As i have earlier mentioned, that during the course, you are provided internships, whereby you would be exposed to all departments but beginning at the lower levels. This is because if you wish to start as a manager,m you need to know the ground level work to be able to advise the juniors and at the same time attend to the customers query.
But this does not mean that once you Graduate you are employed as a manager. You first begin as a trainee or executive and then with experience move on to the Managerial position.
Please note that as a graduate student, your first role would be the front desk, whereby you would be given the role of supervising the work at this level and will slowly move ahead.
After Graduation you can opt for a masters degree in Hotel management. Or you could opt for an MBA in Hospitality management, a 2 years program.
But please note that it is also crucial to pursue certifications in various areas especially in Food and Beverage, baking etc.
As far as salary is concerned, mainly a Hotel management graduate begins at 20-25K, and with experience can move further up.Again this depends on the kind of hotel you join and the personality and other traits you possess, with your qualification.
Hope this helps.
Wish you good luck..........
