Hi There,

Hats off to your thinking. Very few are inclined towards such a noble deed at this stage of their career.

As such even i did not know there are courses available for one to work as a professional when it comes to dentistry help for special children.

Here please note that, you need to choose Pediatric dentistry at the masters level, that is after a BDS degree.

Please note that the concept of training dentists with relation to oral care of special children is relatively a new concept in India, and as such I am unable to find a course, which clarifies the above issue.

Though one particular dentists has written on his site that at the masters level. a dentists would have to put in an additional 2 years to be eligible to work with special needs kids.

But abroad, they have a 2 years PG Diploma in Special care dental, which makes them eligible to work with special children and their dental care.

Though just a layman's idea, here, since I have been working with the Specially abeled group. We generally take appointment with a Pediatric dentist, send him the prior details of the child in terms of medications he takes, allergies and his mental well-being and behavior and then fix an appointment with them.

Just few tips here, You would need to study the childs file in details and know about their disorder in details before you deal with them. Since majorly medications are responsible for their tooth ailment. Also few of them cannot be or the level of anesthesia differs, so you need to be well prepared for these issues well before giving an appointment.

Hope this helps.

Wish you good luck....
