Thats a very nice question.

Well there are lot of books & other materials which chartered accountant must read on the regular basis to refresh his memory & for all the recent updates.

However, there are lot of areas which are handled by CA's & each of them are vast in ltself. So what to be studied by CA will differ from person to person depending on his/her expertise.

Following are the Books, Material & other sources whic "CA" must read:

1) Amendments in Income Tax Act (Taxmann)
2) Amendments in Service tax
3) ICAI journals (for members)
4) ICAI Student Journal
5) Accounting Statdards (By ICAI)
6) Guidance notes on revised schedule VI (By ICAI)

Other sources:
1) Join communities on the web portals to stay updated with recent changes & different queries.
2) Start doing blogging on the web portals which are for finance, tax , audit professionals.
3) REad all the notifications/Circulars which are updated every now & then on the websites of Income Tax, CBDT, CBEC etc

Other books:
You can read motivational books as well such as by Robin Sharma.
