Electronics & instrumentation engineering is a specialized branch of engineering which focuses on the principle and operation of measuring instruments, process control which are used in design and configuration of automated systems. These engineers work in industries with automated processes such as chemical or manufacturing plants, with the goal of improving system productivity, reliability , safety , optimization and stability. Instrumentation engineers help in the designing, construction and maintenance of instruments and entire instrumentation systems of an industrial undertakings. They can get job in research and development unit of public and private sector companies. They are also required by the heavy industries such as thermal power stations, steel plants, refineries, cement and fertilizers plants both in government and private sectors like national fertilizers ltd, bharat heavy electrical ltd, Indian oil corporation ltd and steel authority of Indialtd. They have a multi disciplinary role to play. One may choose to move sideways into other career areas within or outside their industry. This may include areas such as sales and marketing, finance, hr , it or general management.
With so many industries coming up the need for instrumentation engineers is on the rise. These engineers can take up consultancy based work, They can also get into research or may take up job as lecturer with the technical institutes. Many it sector companies like tcs, infosys, Accenture are hiring students for campus placement. robotic is another vast field where there is huge demand for instrumentation engineers.
Tasks and responsibilities of instrumentation engineers may include:-
designing and developing new control systems
maintaining and modifying existing systems


managing operations
contacting clients, suppliers , contractors and relevant authorities
troubleshooting
providing advice and consultancy support
writing computer software
developing new business proposals
domain expertin it industry
