The growing understanding of psychology and its importance has brought with itself a plethora of career opportunities. It holds the solution to a thousand mental, social and psychological problems human being find themselves battling with. Psychology is an extremely complex science working on pure logic and reasoning combined with apt sensitivity. Psychology is usually taught at the 10+2 or equivalent level with other social sciences. Most universities offer the subject as a Bachelor;s honor progarmme. After graduation one can either go for MA or MSc in psychology . The regular post graduate course in psychology are offered only to students who have studied psychology at graduation level. Specializations i the subject can be pursued at the post graduate or at the doctoral level- MPhil or PhD after post graduation. The various specializations at post graduate level are:-
Clinical Psychology- Clinical psychologists assess and treat people with psychological problems, They may act as therapists for people who are experiencing normal psychological crisis ( e.g. grief) or for individuals suffering from chronic psychiatric disorders. Some clinical psychologists are generalists who work with a wide variety of population, while other work with specific groups such as children, the elderly or those with specific disorders. The various mental illnesses such as depression, post traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, anxiety , various phobias etc are treated by clinical psychologists.
Counselling Psychology- Counselling psychologists do many of the same things the clinical psychologists do. However , counselling psychologists tend to focus more on persons with adjustment problems rather than on persons suffering from severe psychological disorders. They may be trained in psychology department or in in education departments. Counselling psychologists are employed in academic settings, college counselling centers , community mental health centers etc.
Industrial/ Organizational Psychology- Industrial/ organizational psychologists are concerned with the relationships between people and their work environments. They may develop new ways to increase workplace productivity or be involved in personnel selection
. They are employed in business, government agencies , factories , industrial set-ups, corporate houses and academic establishments.

To become a psychologist, PhD is essential qualification.

In Clinical Psychology, one can be called clinical psychologist after completing MPhil in Clinical Psychology and also get registered at Rehabilitation Council of India as Clinical Psychologist.
Following is the career pathways of Psychologist:

Graduation (BA or BSc in Psychology)
Post-graduation (MA, MS or MSc in Psychology)
MPhil (two years research course)
PhD (in psychology)
PsyD (Doctor of Psychology course is offered Western Countries)
