The NDA full form stands for National Defence Academy, which is the joint defense service training institute of the Indian Armed Forces. The NDA is located in Khadakwasla, Pune; Maharashtra. It is the first tri-service academy in the world. The three services that the candidates are recruited in are the Indian Army, the Indian Navy, and the Indian Air Force. The candidates who want to join National Defence Academy have to appear in the entrance exam conducted by the union public service commission UPSC. The exams are scheduled twice in April and September. The Supreme Court has now allowed women aspirants to participate in the NDA 2021.

Nationality

Now that we know the NDA full form let us look at the eligibility criteria of the NDA candidate-

  • A citizen of India or 
  • A subject of Nepal or Bhutan 
  • A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, to permanently set in India.
  • A person originally Indian who has migrated from the countries- Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, The united republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam to permanently set in India.
  • All foreign nationals are required to produce the certificate of NDA eligibility criteria that has been issued by the government of India. However, the candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal do not need a certificate.

Age Limit And Marital Status

  • The minimum age is 15.7 years not later than 1st January 2005/16 years during the commencement of course.
  • The maximum age is18.7 years not earlier than 2nd January 2002/19 years during the commencement of course.
  • For NDA 1 candidate must have been born not earlier than July 2001 and no later than July 1, 2004.
  • For NDA 2 candidates must have been born not earlier than January 2002 and not later than January 1, 2005.
  • The commission accepts the date of birth that is entered into class 10th or class 12th certificates.
  • Candidates need to submit the certificate after the declaration of the result of the written exam.

NDA Educational Qualification

Apart from the NDA full form here are the education qualifications required for different academics are given below-

  • The candidate who wants to apply for the Indian army must have completed the 12th or its equivalent exam from a recognized board.
  • The appearing candidate can also apply for NDA 2021.
  • Candidates appearing in class 11 exams are not eligible.

Eligibility For Indian Navy And Air Force

  • The candidates who want to apply for the Indian Navy and Air Force must have completed the 12th or its equivalent exam from a recognized board, with physics and mathematics as a compulsory subjects.
  • The appearing candidate can also apply.
  • Candidates appearing in class 11 exams are not eligible.

Physical Standards

As we now know the NDA full form, there are certain requirements for physical fitness that must be fulfilled by the candidate at the time of submitting the NDA full form National Defence Academy application form. The NDA eligibility criteria vary according to the post for which the candidate is applying. It must be understood that if a candidate has resigned or withdrawn from any of the training academies of the armed forces, on the disciplinary ground it will not be considered eligible to apply for NDA 2021.

The candidates must not suffer from any of these minor conditions-

  •  Deviated Nasal Septum 
  • Hydrocele/ Phimosis
  • Condition of Overweight/Underweight
  • Undersized chest 
  • Piles 
  • Tonsillitis 
  • Gynaecomastia
  • Varicocele

Candidates must ensure that any permanent body tattoo should not be present on the inner side of the forearm. Permanent body tattoos on any other part of the body are not acceptable. Tattoos on the inside of the elbow to the wrist and the reverse side of the palm/backside of the hand are not acceptable. In case a candidate belongs to a tribe where it is a custom to have marks compulsory to have then acceptance is granted considering the traditions involved.

Height And Weight Standards

  • The minimum height measurement is 157 cm (16 2.5 CM for Air force)
  • For Gorkhas and individuals belonging to hills of the North-Eastern areas of India, Garhwal, and Kumaon, the minimum height will be 5 cm less
  • For candidates from Lakshadweep, the minimum height can be reduced by 2 cms. 
  • For different age group, the weight varies.

Candidates are suggested to keep themselves in a good physical condition before the NDA exam by running 2.4 km in 15 minutes or skipping, doing pushups and sit-ups (minimum 20) and chin-ups (8), or rope climbing 3-4 meters.

Who Are Not Eligible For Applying For NDA?

  • If the candidate is married, then they are not eligible to apply for the exam.
  • If the candidates have withdrawn or resigned from the disciplinary grounds of training academies of armed forces then they cannot apply.
  • The candidate who have not cleared their PABT/CPSS exam then they cannot apply.
  • If the candidates are debarred by the Defence Ministry then they cannot apply.
