Hello There,

If one thinks the only work of a chef is too cook dishes and be innovative think again.

A chef is engaged with tasks of not just cooking and experimenting with food, but right from deciding the menu to serving to administrative work etc.

A chef whether he works in a hotel or is an owner is not the question. Even if he does not own the hotel, he is assigned the job of actually owning the hotel. Since he is responsible for the smooth functioning of it.

Looking at a Life of a chef in details:

  • He arrives before any other staff and makes sure he sets the menu for the day. He also makes sure all ingredients necessary are available and are fresh.
  • He starts the initial preparation. Right from the vessels needed to quantity needed, the blending etc.
  • He then instructs the cook and other staffs as to how to get along with the preparations.
  • He then looks in for the setting like the dinning space, tables are set properly, plates and other stuffs required at placed in proper ways.
  • Sometimes he is also needed to interact with the guests and especially if it is a very important customer or a board meeting etc. He needs to sit and interact with them and get specifics needed and make necessary arrangements
  • Make different arrangements in terms of the ambience as well as the menu for lunch and dinner
  • Sometimes after the food is over, he would have to interact with the guest and take feedback or just meet the guest and interact with them
  • Most importantly he needs to see that the other staffs serve the dishes in a proper order

In short the chef is the most busiest person in the hotel, who not only caters to cooking but other tasks too. Thus a chef needs certain personality traits like observation and patience and good sense of creativity to be successful in his job. At the same-time develop traits whereby he can get hs work done, not because of his authority but in general whereby people are attracted to him and follow him.

Hope this helps.

Wish you good luck...
