Thank you for choosing CareerGuide and writing to us. Psychology is an interesting field engaged with perception and behavioral systems in human. You can certainly do Psychology at both Bachelors (BA/ BSc) and Masters (MA/ MSc) level Psychology in India.I understand you are not happy to learn maths and science at college level and please be assured and relaxed, you wont study Maths at college level if you are choosing Psychology. But please be aware that few universities have maths in sem one of BA/BSc degree in Psychology. And yes, if you wanted to study Psychology at college level, you can choose Biology at school level or for some state board affiliated students, they can choose to study Biology/ Chemistry in their class 11 and 12. Make sure you study Biology and Chemistry at 11th and 12th standard level for sure as this is the main criteria for applying to BA Psychology in India.


Regarding, branches of Psychology:
There are a variety of branches in psychology. Please have a look at the picture below.&

Developmental Psychology: It studies the changes in human behaviour over every developmental stage of their life like - infant, child, adult, middle aged and old.


Forensic Psychology: It applies psychology in criminal investigation and law.

Social Psychologists: it studies how people interact socially in different settings. It is more in use at management research these days.

Clinical Psychology: It studies clinical aspects of human behavior. It involves exploring certain medical conditions and associated behavior in clinical settings.

Biological psychology: It is also known as behavioural neuroscience. They study biological behavior and changes associated with human behaviour.

Personality psychology: It is a study to understand personality variation between individual to individual.

Experimental psychology: they apply experimental methods to understand behaviour. This is always performed only in lab

Consumer Psychology: It is a study to understand how consumers buy a product. They research to understand why customers prefer to buy a product or not buy a product. This psychology branch is more applied in marketing.

Counselling psychology: It has a variety of counselling done for different sets of people to help them solve their problems. It needs to understand the personality and issue to suggest solutions.

School/ education psychology: This involves studying learning behaviour, motivation for students, or why students get demotivated in certain aspects while learning at school.

Industrial psychology: It involves studying how industry behaves at different scenarios like economic recession, employee down turn. It is also known as organizational psychology where it studies employees behaviour and attitudes while working in a company.

Health psychology: It involves studying how health is impacted due to psychological problems of a person and the ways to solve it.

Apart from the branches listed below, you can also opt to study the following under 'counselling psychology':
Marriage/ relationship counselling: Counselling people who have issues in married life, studying their issues and counselling them to overcome personal relationship issues.

Education counselling: Counselling students on their suitable educational choice they can pursue at school and college level.

Career counselling: Counselling students and employees on their best career routes that are suitable to their personality type.

Rehabilitation counselling: Counselling people who have been addicted to alcohol/ drugs or mentally retarded.

Adult counselling: Counselling adults on the problems they may undergo during their adult life.

Child counselling: Counselling children on certain medical and behavioural issues.
