Dear candidate,

Glad to hear you are considering to give competitive exams to be able to study abroad. I shall explain in brief about the process of writing these exams and the relative admission process that takes place in foreign universities. Many students ask me whether they need to write GRE or GMAT to get admissions for higher education in foreign countries. To clarify this, yet again, I am writing in here.

GMAT: Graduate management aptitude test
This exam is only written if you are applying for studying Business and Management related MSc, MBA and the PhD's. So whether you wanted to study MSc Management, MSc Marketing, MSc Human resource management, MBA (Masters in business administration) or even the PhD in Management; you should definitely write the GMAT exam. Also to mention, Supply chain management, Operations management, Corporate social responsibility, business ethics, entrepreneurship, information management are all offered as a stand alone Masters in many countries like in the UK, Germany and Sweden; so this requires you to write only GMAT.
Also please note most universities will not require GMAT for applying to MSc courses where as they are often mandatory only for the MBA program. However certain esteemed universities in the UK like Imperial college London, Cranfield school of management, London business school, Judge business school at the University of Cambridge, Said business school at the university of Oxford do demand GMAT scores for even applying for the Masters programs. However as i said, the rule is almost all MBA programs worldwide requires GMAT only.

In case you are applying for the PhD in Management related subject, only the streams like Marketing management, Supply chain management, Operations management or even General management will demand GMAT score.

To register for the GMAT exam, please do it on www.mba.com as that is the official site. The exam fee is around 250 US$ globally. The exam results are valid for upto five years from the date of the exam. Once you register on the website, you can download their free preparation software that will facilitate your exam preparation. Moreover you can look up for many free practice papers on the internet to get some extra practice. Although attending a designated GMAT coaching centre in your city is more advisable as they teach you well on the important tips and aspects of scoring the exam high.

GRE: Graduate record examination
This exam is only given if you are applying for MSc related programs in the USA, Singapore. Most countries like the UK, Australia and European countries don't really demand the GRE score for MSc admissions. This exam is not required for applying for the MBA degree however they are required only if you are applying for a PhD in Accounting and Finance or PhD in Human resource management, Organisational behaviour, Organisational psychology degrees.

Hope this helps. My best wishes to you.
