The role of a journalist has changed quite a lot over the years and it is still changing. The below mentioned points will help you understand the various aspects of the role of a journalist and the futuristic trends that one can expect in this profession.


1. Earlier the journalists used to be working behind the scenes only and their role was not as prominent as it is today. And it's becoming even more prominent day by day. This is due to the fact that a number of people have succeeded in this profession and have set examples which inspire not only aspiring journalists but also the common people who see them working.

2. The salaries have changed a lot. Specially because of the entry of the private sector in the news media, the reporters are now being paid hefty amounts for their work and rightly so. They have also been recognized nationally and internationally and therefore there is no dearth of opportunities for them these days.

3. The journalists do not need to go to the libraries or to the particular site in order to conduct their research but they can do that sitting at their own place. Technology has changed the way they work and it's still changing it. Now they can do their research on internet, connect to the people through telephone and emails, and interview the persons through video conferencing. Therefore the technology has saved an extra effort to be required on their part and also the time is being saved.

4. The journalists are required to have far more skill sets today than they needed before. This is because in this highly competitive world they have to have those extra skills in order to provide the extraordinary value as a professional. Be it the knowledge of a different language, the presentation skills, research and analytical skills or anything else, they are supposed to be really good at all this so that they can mark their impression.

Thus the role of a journalist has changed quite a lot and in fact is still evolving.
