I have always aspired to become an reformer (alike a lawyer.which my family is unlikely to support me with). Is there any other alternative career , which would let me express my thoughts other than journalism and law to attain a degree before doing UPSC

Hi There,

Firstly this is an interesting thought and i should be pushing you towards this cause as far as possible.

Secondly to be a  Reformer, you need to first start at the root level, know the underlying cause of an issue and then meet like minded people, as alone you cannot bring about a change but definitely you can be the face of the change.

Though Journalism is one of the best ways to address such issues, as they say, " Pen is mightier than a sword". Please note that, you can still be a columnists and write for daily newspapers and magazines or write blogs even if you are not a journalist.

You could also think of Sociology as a career. As a Sociologists, you would be working at the grassroot level, mainly dealing with societal issues at the base level, knowing the issue closer than ever, which will help you bring about the necessary changes.

Also you could opt for being a Teacher after pursuing Graduation in any field of your choice. Teaching or educating someone is the best way to bring about changes in the society.

UPSC is a government related job. But please note that unless you have a good backing especially in the government sector, bringing about a change would be a less difficult.

Wish you good luck in your endevour.

Dear Aspirant,

Good to know your thoughts and I support them.

Practically speaking as suggested by Ms. Meghna, I would also suggest you to be realistic but also not remove your patriotism and positivity in you.

Journalism, Law, Political Science, are known to lead a career in government or social sector.

There are also courses in Government Policies like in MIT in Pune, which teach you everything about government working and career. Think for this.

Best wishes
