Interesting, you wish to be a Psychologitsts.

First lets look at the career path and then we will discuss the work crieteria too.

To pursue a course in Psychology, one needs to pursue 12th Arts, and then pursue 6 papers in Psychology at the graduate level.
Some university divides the 6 papers in Psychology, among the 2nd and 3rd year.
For an admission into the graduation stream, one needs a minimum of 60% in 12th.

It is best to pursue a Psychology honours and not a dual specilization at he graduate level, because, few University do not allow masters in Psychology then.
After Graduation, on e needs to pursue a masters degree which is a 2 years program, whereby you could choose from the specialization, whichever you are interested in. For Masters degree afgain a minimum of 60% is required but specializations like Clinical and Industrial needs a higher percentage around 70.

Some of the specilaizations available includes:

  • Clinical Psychology: These are psychologists who mainly deals with mild to severe psychotic and neurotic disorders. Mainly disorders like Schizophrenia, OCD, Paranoid and so on. Also mild form of disorders like Depression, Anxiety, stress etc are dealt by a Clinical Psychologists. They are well versed with testing and interpretations. Mostly found in hospitals or clinics and because of their background of administering tests and interpretations can work in collaboration with a psychiatrists.
  • Counseling Psychologists: These are psychologists who also counsel milder issues related to stress and anxiety. But are mainly associated with schools and counseling organizations. The only difference between Clinical and counseling Psychologists is that a Counseling psychologists cant certify an individual to have any form of a mental disorder though they may administer the tests. They too work or can work in collaboration with a Psychiatrists.

Industrial Psychologists: These are psychologists who are mainly associated with organizations. They work in collaboration with the HR team. They are mainly into training and development or assessing an individual during interviews, generating and administering and interpreting test mainly concerned with the employees and their welfare

  • Guidance and Counseling: These are psychologists who are mainly into career counseling. They are well versed with the Aptitude test as well as guiding stunts towards a suitable career. They also have counseling knowledge but they cant deal with any mental health issues. Mainly found working in Counseling and Aptitude or career counseling firms.
Please note that after few years of experience all the Psychologists can work as a freelancer in their respective fields.

Apart from just a degree, you need to develop skills like:
  • Patience
  • Analytical Ability
  • Listening
  • Empathy and not sympathy
  • Teamwork

Other than just a degree, you should or at least try to get certificates too, mainly related to:
Alternate therapy like Dance, yoga, meditation, reiki
NLP
EMDR

As far as colleges for Graduation is concerned in Mumbai majorly all colleges do provide you majors in Graduation:
  • Jaihind College
  • Xaviers College
  • Ruparel
  • Bhavans
  • Nationals College
