Hello My Dear Career Aspirant,

Banking and Finance are very dear fields to me personally since I have educated in this field and have also worked in this field for many years. Further, in my more than seven years of career counselling experience, I have come across maximum number of banking and finance career aspirants and I have always felt happy to guide them based on my industry experience.

Its very nice to see you approach CareerGuide for seeking guidance on your career concern.

Banking and Finance as career option:

I appreciate that you have already done a post graduation diploma in banking and finance. May I ask from which Institute or University? IFBI is also offering such a course with placement tie ups with Axis, ICICI, HDFC etc.

Since you are already working in a company and wish to go to hard core banking and finance, I would suggest you to appear for banking examinations like PO, IBPS. Appearing for these exams, can land you in public sector banks as officer and above.

Banking and Finance are very two different fields and practically you would not get a job which deals with both aspects. Jobs are available in those sectors separately and there fore need different set of educational qualifications.

Since you have done a Post Graduate Diploma, the domain knowledge base in such course is very limited compared to a masters degree in finance or banking or MBA, and there fore it may happen that the knowledge is half.

To enter into the above fields with a strong base and confidence for long term career, you will need equally strong qualifications and confidence and skills.

I would suggest that while continuing your current job, you can aim for appearing for the above listed bank exams. Alternatively you can start applying for private bank openings where your educational criteria fits. Its better to start applying in such competitive sector. Further you may also think for short term courses in Treasury Management, etc.

For getting into core finance field, I would recommend you to think for CFA course (Chartered Financial Analyst). This is the best course for finance field.

Ultimately you will need to decide which field to choose from finance and banking.

All the Best!

Please do come back in case you need any more information or need any other career guidance.
