Dear Friend, it depends on the work culture of the organization you work with and also up to you whether you update yourself or not. For example, if you are an academician, there may be a chance that you may get a promotion from a lecturer to assistant professor as per your up gradation in your qualifications or else if you are in industry then you may get promotions as per the policy there.
