Qualification for lecturer in government colleges.

The job of a professor or a teacher is different from any other. A professor shapes the minds of future generations, and by doing so, shapes the future of a country.

Therefore, it's only right that the job of a professor, too, is given to a person who is capable of bearing the responsibility of shaping young minds. Now when I mention that it’s a responsibility, I mean it's one of the greatest in today’s day and age.

Shaping young minds takes a mixture of patience, knowledge, empathy, and a whole lot of confidence, and these are what a man needs if he wants to become a professor.

Now, you probably might be aware that being a professor does have its own share of perks and benefits, i.e., there’s job stability, the workload is never so much as to start stressing you out, you get to live on a government college campus, there are holidays, so on and so forth.

So, it's only understandable that there is a lot of competition among the youth to secure jobs as a professor at a government college.

Having said all of that let us now look into the eligibility criteria that one needs to fit to become a faculty at a government college.

Qualification for lecturer in government colleges : Eligibility Criteria for Post of Lecturer

If you are thinking of ‘’how to become a lecturer in government colleges’’, then the first thing to do is ensure that you fit the eligibility criteria required to become one.

According to the authorities, you should first and foremost be a Master’s Degree holder in the subject you wish to teach in, and that too with a good academic record. Only then can you apply for the post of Lecturer.

Furthermore, if you want to apply for the post of Assistant Professor, you’d need to be everything mentioned above, and should also have qualified the UGC NET, or the CSIR NET, or any of the SLETNET here stands for the National Eligibility Test, and SLET stands for State level Eligibility Test.

These tests are specially designed to test if you are eligible to become an assistant professor or not. NET is a national level test, and enables qualifiers to apply to any of the UGC approved universities, nationwide, while SLET qualifiers can apply for universities of that particular state.

Apart from clearing the NET, you can also become an assistant professor if you have a PhD in the relevant discipline.

Qualification for lecturer in government colleges : Eligibility for Higher Academic Posts

Talking about the post of Associate professor, to apply for it you’d need to have a good academic record with a PhD degree in the relevant discipline, a master’s degree with minimum 55% marks as the final score. Apart from that you’d also need a minimum teaching/research experience of 8 years with a minimum of 7 peer reviewed publications.

Now, coming finally to the post of Professor, to become one you’d have to be an eminent scholar with a PhD degree in a relevant discipline. You’d also need to have published very high-quality research work, with at least 10 research publications under your hat. Apart from all of that, you’d also need to have a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience.
