Dear Student,

As counselors we always suggest students to opt for a career which suits his/her interest , personality and aptitude. Wide variety of career options are available to students who have opted for Commerce. They can consider opting for both finance as well as non finance fileds . If you want to pursue commerce related fields you can think about fields like Chartered accountancy(Math is desirable), Company secretary, Cost and works, Stocks/Broking, Banking, Insurance, Economics, Besides you can also consider opting for fileds like MBA in finance,Marketing, HR, sales, retail, event, sports, hotel, You bcan also pursue programs in travel and tourism, education, Law etc . Besdies if you are creative and have got some innotaive ideas you can also think about fileds like designing and Mass communications .

As mentioned earlier your choice should be driven by your Interest and Aptitude. As you have not opted for maths so you cant opt for careers like Actuaries and Architecture, as maths is required for these filelds. So, now charge yourself and plan your goal .

Hello Deepak,

Not studying maths is never a problem at any career level unless the job role you are involved with requires mathematics. So be relaxed as this is no harm to you and your career in future. You can still find ways where you can do work that never requires mathematical skills. As you haven't studied maths at HSC level, this straight away rules out finance as your option. Finance is one subject that involves a lot of mathematical and statistical skills and especially the entire finance subject is built up on the maths core from school level. So please dont choose to study finance.

Next option is Accounts. You dont require basic math skills to study accounts however business maths subject is essential to study accounts. Have you studied accounts as one of the subjects at HSC level? If yes, then you can get into this accounts stream. However I would like to inform you that to be successful with this area of work, you need to have basic maths knowledge that you may have studied at least until 10th level.

So ideally you can choose the following options.
  1. BCom with accounts
You can choose to study BCom with accounts degree. This degree will help you to gain in-depth knowledge in accounts area and therefore you can become an accountant or an auditor in future. After Bcom accounts you can do MCom accounts and finally a Chartered accountancy course. With a CA degree you can work for big 4 companies like the Deloitte, PWC, KPMG, E&Y.

2.BCom with banking
A Bcom with banking is another nice option. This degree will teach you banking oriented subjects and therefore students completing this degree may work for national and private banks and as well. They can also do well in bank exams and get jobs in banks.

3.BCom with corporate secretaryship
Bcom with corporate secretaryship is the third option for your type of career. Completing this degree you can clear the corporate secretaryship exam and become a CS of a company. This is also very prestigious and professional role. And there are many students without maths background that have managed to clear this.

4. BCom with business
Students can also study Bcom with business. This is a 50% commerce and 50% business subject. Completing it you can go into either of the streams based on your interest.

5.Bachelor of business administration BBA
The last option is the BBA - 100% business degree without any commerce concentration. This degree will give you work like the HR Analyst, marketing analyst, Operations analyst, project manager, accountant, financial analyst and many more. Students can also work as a business analyst and a management trainee after studying the BBA.

Without maths at HSC level these fiver career mentioned in here are very much possible. Hope this helps.
