Being a news reader demands a number of skills. The skills requirement for them has been increasing day by day due to the increased competition. Below are the points that tell about the skills required for the job of a news reader:

1. The most important and the basic skill required for any news reader is to face the camera without any fright. They have to be comfortable in front of camera and should be able to speak well without being conscious about camera's presence. The natural comfort in front of camera is essential as it will help them to connect with the audience.

2. The other important skill that they should have is their presentation. It has to be extremely nice. Then only they can mark their impression and connect with the audience to narrate a compelling story, otherwise not. They should use the right words and right expressions in order to create that connect with the audience and make it more impressive.

3. A news reader has to be spontaneous and quick thinker. Most of the times they work on live television and quite often things may go wrong. There is so little time to adjust it otherwise the reputation of the channel will be affected. Therefore a news reader should know how to handle such situations and correct them immediately. Sometimes there can be chaos in the newsroom during discussions. They should take the immediate step to make it all good.

4. They have to be ready to write their own news stories and also to narrate the stories without any script available. This may happen in case of the live breaking news where there is usually no script available. In such case the news reader has to narrate the story based on the small piece of information that is available at that point of time. This again requires spontaneity and creativity on their part. They need to ensure that the flow of the news doesn't get affected due to lack of the information and the audience attention is not lost during the show.
