Psychiatrists are qualified doctors who diagnose and treat illness and problems related to the mind with the help of medication and psychoanalytical techniques. They talk with patients to understand the nature, root cause and severity of the problem. They review and organize data concerning the patient's family, medical history, onset of symptoms and examine the patient to determine the general physical condition through recommending diagnostic tests. They work in collaboration with psychologists, occupational therapists and social workers to carry out and ensure the effectiveness of treatment planned. A good psychiatrist must have keen interest in studying and understanding the various dynamics of human behavior. He should have immense patience and perseverance. He must be empathetic and have objective approach for understanding the problem of patient
.He must be a good listener and have keen observation. He must be emotionally stable. Those interested to carry out research must have long concentration span and a strong aptitude for research.
