This course is an undergraduate course. The duration for this course is 3 years. The academic discipline for understanding and managing the fisheries is “Fisheries Science”. Science that draws Discipline of aquaculture including diagnosis of fishes, nutrition, genetics, breeding, farming, medical treatment of aquatic animals, other aquatic resources, biotechnology, is “fisheries science”. Fisheries science is a multidisciplinary science that draws the discipline of fish processing that includes value addition, curing, freezing, quality assurance and management, canning, waste utilization and byproducts, fisheries biochemistry, fisheries microbiology. Biology, taxonomy, population dynamics, physiology, anatomy are included in fisheries resource management which will be drawn by fisheries science. Studying aquatic organisms in fresh water, valuable fishes, studying aquatic organisms in blackish water and any marine environment are utilized by the fisheries science. Fishery science draws the discipline of fishing technology including the seamanship and navigation, craft and gear engineering, fisheries management and economics, marine engines and fisheries extension. Aqua Science and Aquaculture are comparable to Fishery Science. Under the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, fisheries Science is one of the departments. Fisheries science comes under the administration of the department of Animal Husbandry Dairying and Fisheries(DADF).Fisheries science is the field of Agriculture.
